Christian’s Pandemic Burger
I’ve been told by some (not many, but some) that this is the best burger they’ve ever tasted. I even think they meant it. As usual, no elaborate stories or feel-gooderies. Just my delicious, original recipe slightly modified for an extended stay at home. Makes 4 – 6 burgers.
You Will Need:
For the base burger:
- High quality bakery buns | ciabatta, brioche, pretzel, sesame, etc.
- 1 lb ground beef (70/30)
- 4 T Carolina mustard BBQ sauce
- 1 egg
- 2 T Bread crumbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Smoked Gouda slices (optional)
For optional additions I sometimes squish in (only use 1 – 2 at a time, we aren’t maniacs, right? No specific measurements listed, just do what feels right):
- Bacon crumbles
- Garlic powder
- Onions, minced
- Red pepper flakes, crushed
You Will Do:
- Thoroughly squish ingredients together by hand or mixer
- Form meat into 4 – 6 patties, approximately 1/2 inch thick
- Grill (or pan fry) until medium (you can go beyond medium, but I will judge you harshly)
- Top burgers with cheese slices one minute before removing from grill
- Slap the cooked meat on a bun
- Top with your favorite toppings and condiments (I like radish greens or arugula and [sometimes] a fried egg)
- Serve!
You Will Also Consider:
This is identical to my meatloaf recipe. Instead of shaping into patties, form the meat mixture into a lightly-greased loaf pan for 40 – 50 minutes (or until cooked through) at 350 degrees. You’re welcome.
